A welcome luxury in the changing rooms
Underfloor heating is a welcome luxury in the changing rooms at the "Football in the Community" all weather five-a-side pitch at Carrow Park next to Norwich City Football Club.
The new building, which also incorporates a reception, administration, referee rooms, toilets and catering, was completed by main contractor, Morgan Ashurst. "Underfloor heating made far more sense for this project, bearing in mind the function and use of the building," says Helen Wildin from DEVI. "With young people training in all weathers during the winter football season, it can get very uncomfortable underfoot with wet and muddy feet."
The DEVI solution utilises deviflex underfloor heating cables to provide full comfort heating for installation below a screed. It enables warmth to be evenly distributed throughout the building with no need for channeling emissions or for wall-mounted radiators, which facilitated the design of the new building. The system is controlled by an advanced devireg 550 intelligent thermostat fitted with inbuilt timer and room sensor that learns how long the room takes to heat up.
"The benefits of the DEVI underfloor heating system are particularly relevant to sporting venues, as it gives a pleasant heat at floor level, warmth at body level and a slightly cooler temperature at head height, unlike conventional heating systems," continues Helen. "Coming in wet on a cold day after an intensive training session into immediate heat from radiators can have a negative effect on the body but the DEVI underfloor heating system eliminates this risk. The underfloor heating also helps to keep the floor surface dry in wet conditions, reducing the risk of slipping."
